Santa Maria Man Assualted and Carjacked by Hitchhiker
Orcutt- January 4th, 2017
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged assault and carjacking that occurred yesterday, January 3, 2017, in the Orcutt area. At approximately 3:45 p.m., a Santa Maria male in his twenties reported that he was driving his white GMC Sierra truck when he picked up an unknown hitchhiker in the area of Highway 101 and the Clark Avenue northbound onramp.
The victim stated that after passing the Union Valley overpass at the 101, the unknown suspect attacked him, punching him repeatedly in the face. The victim attempted to fight back and got into a traffic collision with a van that was also traveling northbound on Highway101. The victim then pulled to the shoulder just south of the Santa Maria Way offramp. The fight continued until the passenger of the van attempted to assist the victim.
The suspect allegedly got out of the GMC truck armed with a knife and chased after the passenger of the van. The victim subsequently got out of the GMC. The suspect then ran to the van and slashed the right front tire then ran to the GMC and fled northbound on Highway 101. Sheriff's deputies and CHP officers responded and searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect or stolen vehicle. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured or required medical transportation.
The suspect is described as a white male adult approximately 18 to 20 years of age with tattoos on his arms and neck.
