UCSB Graduate Fatally Injured From Balcony Fall in Isla Vista
Isla Vista- February 5th, 2017
At about 1:30 a.m. this morning, February 5, 2017, a UCSB graduate was fatally injured after falling from a second story balcony at an apartment in the 800 block of Embarcadero Del Norte. According to his friends that were present at the time of the incident, 22-year-old Kenneth Yun was attempting to sit on a railing when he fell backward. The victim landed in an asphalt parking lot and struck his head on impact. Emergency personnel responded and attended to Yun at the scene. He was transported by ambulance to Cottage Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for head trauma and internal injuries. In spite of the medical team’s efforts, just after 8:00 a.m. Yun succumbed to his injuries.
According to his family, Yun had been living in San Francisco and working in the Engineering field.
The Coroner’s Office is conducting a death investigation to determine an official cause and manner of death. A final determination is pending toxicology and lab results.
