Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested in Buellton


Buellton - February 8th, 2016


On Saturday, February 6, 2016, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a concerned community member contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report a suspicious subject in the 600 block of Avenue of the Flags in the City of Buellton.  The community member believed the suspicious subject resembled the robbery suspect depicted within the bank video surveillance footage from Rabobank.  Sheriff’s patrol personnel converged upon the area and began searching for the suspect.  A second community member subsequently called Sheriff’s dispatch and reported observing a suspicious subject hiding within bushes in the 700 block of Central Avenue.  Deputies were able to establish containment, prevent further flight by the suspect, and took the suspect into custody without incident.  46 year-old John Stacy Roller was arrested for violation of 211 PC – Robbery.  Roller will be booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail, with bail set at $100,000.



The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a bank Robbery that occurred at the Rabobank branch in the City of Buellton. 


On Friday, February 5, 2016, at approximately 2:15 p.m., a single suspect entered the Rabobank branch located on Highway 246 in Buellton.  Upon entering the bank, the suspect contacted a bank teller and demanded money.  The suspect is described as being a white male adult, wearing a light colored baseball cap, a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark colored pants.  The bank was able to provide a photograph of the suspect inside the bank (attached).  Witnesses did not observe the suspect display a weapon during the robbery.  After he was provided with an undisclosed sum of money, the suspect exited the bank and was last seen running westbound through the bank parking lot. 


The investigating Sheriff’s deputies and detectives developed leads that ultimately enabled them to identify the suspect as 46 year old John Stacey Roller of Buellton.  Mr. Roller fled his residence in the 200 block of La Pita Place prior to the arrival of Sheriff’s deputies.  Sheriff’s detectives are currently in the process of obtaining a warrant for the arrest of Mr. Roller.


The Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating Mr. Roller.  Community members are asked to call 911 if they observe John Roller in person, but should not attempt to stop or detain Mr. Roller.  Anyone with non-time-sensitive information that may assist law enforcement in locating and arresting John Roller are encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at 805-683-2724, or to leave an anonymous tip at 805-681-4171.
