Invitation to Participate in North County Sheriff's Citizen's Academy

Solvang - February 15th, 2017

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications to participate in the Sheriff’s North County Citizen’s Academy.  This interactive eight-week program begins on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. and ends on Saturday, April 15, with a final session and graduation.  The classes are held every Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at various locations throughout Santa Barbara County.  The first class will take place at the Solvang Veterans Hall located at 1745 Mission Drive.

The Citizen’s Academy is free and only has 20 spaces available.  The spots fill up quickly, so a prompt response is recommended.  Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, in moderate physical condition and able to attend all of the sessions in order to participate.

The Citizen’s Academy is a great way for community members to get an exclusive, inside look at what law enforcement does on a daily basis to protect its citizens. The topics will include a Department History, Tours of the Main Jail and Santa Barbara Courthouse, Coroners Bureau, Public Safety Dispatch Center, Deputy Sheriff Training, Firearms at our indoor range, Forensics Investigation, Detectives, Air Support, Special Enforcement Team, Hostage Negotiation Team, Narcotics, K-9, Mounted Unit, Bomb Squad, Search and Rescue and Sheriff’s Volunteer Team Programs.

To apply, please scan and send the attached application to Senior Deputy Charlie Uhrig atcdu3086@sbsheriff.org or you can also drop off an application at any Sheriff’s Office sub-station.  For more information, please e-mail Sr. Deputy Uhrig or give him a call at (805) 452-8073
