Defendant in the Anthony Ibarra Murder Trial is Injured Following Assault at the Santa Barbara County Jail
Santa Barbara - June 6th, 2013
At around 12:20 p.m. on Monday, June 4th, Sheriff’s Custody Deputies at the Santa Barbara County Jail came upon an assault in progress. They discovered 54-year-old Pedro Torres in his cell with significant injuries. He was taken to a medical facility for evaluation. The assault is under investigation and no suspects have been identified at this point.
Torres is in custody on accessory charges related to the murder of Anthony Ibarra. He is one of eleven defendants in the case and is scheduled to appear with his co-defendants this morning for an arraignment at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Maria Superior Court. Due to his injuries, Torres is unable to attend his hearing.
No further information will be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation and for security reasons.
