Suspect Attacks Mother Then Hides
Goleta - June 28th, 2013
On June 28, 2013, at approximately 0856 hours, deputies responded to the 7400 block of San Blanco Drive on a report of a dispute between a mother and her son. The mother reported she and her son got into an argument. During the argument, the son pushed his mother, grabbed her phone as she attempted to call the Sheriff’s Department and broke the phone preventing the mother from calling law enforcement for assistance. The son then grabbed a sports racket, similar to a racket-ball racket, and struck the mother with it.
The mother and the 14 year old sister of the suspect son fled the residence and were able to make contact with deputies at a near-by gas station. During the contact with the deputies, the mother and sister conveyed the suspect was still at the residence and he may have access to firearms. Deputies responded to the residence and attempted to make contact with the son. During their attempt to make contact, the deputies decided to secure the residence and call in additional resources. Due to the son possibly having access to weapons, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department’s Special Enforcement Team (S.W.A.T) was asked to assist.
While the additional resources were being put into place, it was learned the Sheriff’s Department had previous contacts with the son at another residence on San Milano Drive. A team of deputies was sent to the address on San Milano Drive in an attempt to locate the suspect. The deputies contacted the residents at San Milano Drive who indicated the suspect was not there. The deputies conducted a probation search of the residence and were able to locate the suspect inside the residence. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Also taken into custody was one of the residents at the San Milano Drive residence.
After the suspect was taken into custody, the Special Enforcement Team searched the suspect’s residence in the 7400 block of San Blanco Drive. During that search, the Special Enforcement Team was able to find a loaded .22 caliber rifle than had been modified to be able to be concealed.
