Electronic Monitoring Escapee is Caught and Arrested
Santa Barbara - July 17th, 2013
A Santa Barbara man who cut off his electronic monitoring device two weeks ago is behind bars and charged with felony vandalism, felony evading and delaying arrest, and for an outstanding warrant for grand theft. 40-year-old Manuel Brian Aceves was arrested by Sheriff’s Deputies today with the assistance of County Probation and the Santa Barbara Police Department.
Just before noon today, Sheriff’s Deputies received a call that Aceves was inside a location in the 800 block of Cacique Street in Santa Barbara. When authorities tried to make contact with Aceves, he fled. A foot pursuit ensued and ended a short time later when Aceves was discovered hiding in a nearby building. A Santa Barbara Police Officer received a minor injury during the chase. Aceves was arrested and taken into custody.
Because the GPS device that Aceves cut off was never found it is considered felony vandalism. Also because an officer was injured during the pursuit, Aceves is charged with felony evading and delaying arrest. Aceves had been on GPS tracking for several months.
