Safety Reminder for Participants of Unsanctioned Fiesta Bicycle Ride
Santa Barbara - August 3rd, 2016
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Barbara County Public Works Department and Santa Barbara County Parks Department want to remind participants of this year’s Fiesta Cruiser Ride to be safe and obey the rules of the road. The unsanctioned annual bicycle ride is scheduled for this Sunday, August 7, 2016 and traditionally starts in the City of Santa Barbara’s waterfront area and travels through the unincorporated area of Santa Barbara County to Isla Vista and back.
Sheriff’s deputies will be on the lookout for bicyclists who violate traffic laws and they will be cited. Some of the most common bicycle related Vehicle Code violations include, failure to ride as close as practical to the right hand curb and failure to obey red signal lights and stop signs.
Participants are also encouraged to be observant of construction area signs around the Goleta Beach Park Bridge project and to be prepared to follow any detours. The bridge is currently being replaced and the area is an active construction site. The Public Works Department and the Parks Department want to take this opportunity to thank the traveling public for their patience and cooperation during construction of this project.
