Vehicle Chase in Goleta Ends in Crash

Santa Barbara County- August 21st, 2013

At around 12:15 this afternoon, August 21, there was a verbal dispute involving four individuals at the Camino Real Marketplace in Goleta.  Following the argument, which was apparently over drug related issues, the individuals jumped into two separate vehicles and a chase ensued.  Two males were driving in a dark blue Lexus sedan and were followed by a male and female in a silver Subaru wagon.

The vehicles headed northbound on Storke Road to Glenn Annie Road and through the El Encanto Heights area and finally eastbound onto Cathedral Oaks Road.  During the chase, the drivers were traveling at a high rate of speed and crossing the double yellow lines to pass other vehicles.  At the corner of Cathedral Oaks and the 500 block of Camino Laguna Vista, the driver of the dark blue Lexus sedan, failed to negotiate a turn, crashed into a tree and took out part of a fence located at a residence.

When Sheriff’s Deputies arrived they found all four individuals involved and both vehicles.  The driver of the dark blue Lexus sedan, a 28 year old Santa Barbara resident was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.  The passenger, a 20 year old Isla Vista resident was not hurt.  The driver of the silver Subaru wagon, a 21 year old Bay Area resident and his girlfriend a 23 year old Goleta resident who had also been living in the Bay Area were not injured in the incident.

The crash is under investigation and the drivers of both vehicles face potential reckless driving charges.
