Commander Brad Welch

Commander Welch began with the Sheriff’s Office in 1999 as a Reserve Deputy and has since worked as a Corrections Officer (Custody Deputy), Sheriff’s Deputy, Special Investigations Bureau Narcotics Detective, Supervising Senior Deputy, Sheriff’s Sergeant, and Sheriff’s Lieutenant. While he has worked assignments throughout the county, he has spent most of his career in the South County.
Commander Welch received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 2007 and his Masters Degree in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego in 2017.
Throughout his career Commander Welch has been honored by receiving the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association Awards for Correction Officer Rookie of the Year for 2001, Deputy Rookie of the Year for 2003, Deputy of the Year for 2007, Supervisor of the Year for 2013 and 2014, as well as the Carpinteria Lions Club Peace Officer of the Year award in 2005. In 2015 Brad received the Unit Citation bar and both the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Medal of Valor and the H. Thomas Guerry Award for Valor for his involvement in the Isla Vista Mass Murder incident.
