The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) responds to hostage situations, barricade incidents or, threats of suicide. Like SET, this Team is on-call 24 hours a day and works under the supervision of the Tactical Commander. This team is trained to handle some of the most volatile and dangerous situations for law enforcement. The goal of this team is to find peaceful solutions to potentially life-threatening situations.
Many incidents have been peacefully resolved through the skills of the men and women of the HNT. Each Negotiator trains regularly to enhance negotiation skills, upgrade techniques, become familiar with new equipment and identify current trends such as, ‘suicide by cop’ or Adolescent Violence.
We are grateful for the specialized work they do to keep everyone involved in these tense situations safe.
